Business confidence index (BCI) This business confidence indicator provides information on future developments, based upon opinion surveys on developments in production, orders and stocks of finished goods in the industry sector. It can be used to monitor output growth and to anticipate turning points in economic activity. The standardized Business Confidence Indicators (BCI) are confidence indicators comparable across countries. Comparability has been achieved by careful selection of national indicators, and by smoothing, centring, and amplitude adjusting these series. Small business owners expressed slightly higher levels of optimism in February with the NFIB Optimism Index moving up 0.2 points to 104.5, a reading among the top 10 percent in the 46-year history of the survey. Those expecting better business conditions increased and job creation and openings improved as well. NFIB Business Optimism Index in the United States increased to 104.50 points in February from 104.30 points in January of 2020. NFIB Business Optimism Index in the United States averaged 98.40 points from 1975 until 2020, reaching an all time high of 108.80 points in August of 2018 and a record low of 80.10 points in April of 1980. Consumer confidence index (CCI) This consumer confidence indicator provides an indication of future developments of households’ consumption and saving, based upon answers regarding their expected financial situation, their sentiment about the general economic situation, unemployment and capability of savings.
